Fishing:Winter Grayling

Irfon river levels where dropping so desired to spend the afternoon at the Cefnllysgwynne beat. River was still a little high and murky when I arrived so headed to the top of the beat. Nothing showing on the surface so nymphed my way through and no luck. Sat back and watched the water for a a bit a noted a fish rising on the far back under the trees. Tempted a 12 inch Grayling to a size 14 F Fly and was off the mark. Worked my way down towards the bottom of the beat and had a further Grayling and 2 OOS brownies. Lovely afternoon

Very tough day. River looked good in the morning then the level came up very quickly. Around 800mm of cold rain water came in so called it a day.
Nothing caught

A great days fiahing on a stunning section of the Wye. River high and rising with a lot of debris coming down but still a good number of fishable swims. Fished the first swim in the meadow to start but moved further up after a fruitless couple of hours. Managed to find fish in a near side slack and caught steadily through the remainder of the day. Biggest barbel went 9lb 2oz.

Hard going. River was rising. Had bites early and late. One really nice barbel about 7lb, a quality chub of about 4.5, another chub and an eel. Although it’s a long stretch in reality there are only about 6 pegs that you can actually fish.
