2 Rainbows, 2 browns(returned) fly- fishing. Mostly calm and sunny. A few fish rising, but very choosy. Had to go down to size 16 flies and 4 lb line. A number of bites missed as the takes were very gentle.
Amazed at the amount of rubbish left over the bank holiday- cans, barbecues, plastic bags and a chair; but fair play, the bailiffs picked up lots of when they came round.

Upstream nymphing. Light wt tackle. Stream v overgrown, challenging casting, in fact casting impossible. Access to stream also challenging as bank fenced off with barbed wire and no formal access points that I could find. A rather frustrating day.

This was my second visit to the beat. Wonderful, again. All fish caught on a self tied (barbless) tenkara style/spider emerger pattern fished both upstream and cast across and downstream. It was cloudy and cold. While there was a fair amount of fly life there was very little surface activity. 1 very large trout hooked but lost just before the net!

Last fished the beat back in June when the river was low. River seemed in good condition clear with a nice flow and weather was perfect. Unfortunately nobody told the fish. Initially fished a pheasant tail nymph on the point with a hares ear and plover above. Saw a fish rise on the edge of a fast run and covered it. Changed to a para Adams dry fly and immediately rose hooked and lost the fish. Still a nice few hours out.

A very pleasing start to September on a lovely day with thin cloud, no wind, water 11 degrees and some fly to get fish rising: some sedges in the afternoon and pale wateries from 11 a.m., though no rising fish until 1 p.m. From then on, fish rose here and there until almost 5 .p.m. Bugged during the morning and last thing, and had fish on a few tunghead jigs: a Duracell variant, olive quill and flashback PTN. Most fish in the afternoon came to Goran’s Sedge or to a small PW Duck’s Dun, with one or two on a grizzle EH caddis. Trout from 9-15 inches and grayling from 10-15 inches as well. Biggest trout and grayling,1.5lb. No more rain for a while please!

Enjoyable hour or so at the upper end of the beat. Limited accessibility meant we stayed within about 300 yds of the Ford. Good conditions but no luck!
