First visit here and wanted to fly fish. Most of the open area spots had been taken up by worm / spinning fisherman with tents and several rods. Managed to get a few casts in but no fish on this occasion. Didn't stay long as the weather was terrible. Probably wouldn't go here again to fly fish but seems a very popular spot for worming and spinning.

The Hindwell looked fishable when I arrived after lunch but the heavy rain from the morning soon started to colour and raise the brook.
Some Olives hatching and even saw a couple of rises but couldn't tempt anything.

Parked in the middle parking spot and fished a few sections down towards the lower section of the beat. 6 trout caught on nymphs from 10.00ish - 13.00ish. The pool with the big beech tree looked really nice for salmon so went and got the salmon rod and started fishing just downstream of the neck of the pool, first cast went out and as it swang saw a salmon jump right in front of me at the neck of the pool no more than 6/7 ft away! Beautiful looking fish, lovely fresh colours and easily 10lb+. Went back and tried fishing the neck from above but no takes, think it was on its way through upstream. Disappointed not to catch but great to see it, made my day. River started colouring up quite bad not long after and packed up and went at 16.00. Very heavy showers and i don’t hold out much hope for my booking on the upper Wye tomorrow.
Fishing Passport note: The price of day tickets is the same at Fenni Fach regardless of whether salmon or trout fishing. Switching between the two is therefore fine. Please note that on other beats, fishing for salmon on a trout ticket that is cheaper is not permitted.

Arrived on the beat with friend, after a heavy downpour for most of the night, river was rising and colour was not good. Opted for a fast sink tip with a heavy tube. halfway down the pool a good take. 10lb Salmon hen fish in pristine condition.
Nice day with four trout also taking the tube fly.. Bumped into another two gentleman whom we had lunch with and talked fishy tales.
Nice to see the cooker has been replaced in the hut thank you, finished around 4pm and went back to the hut for a nice brew. Great day..

River was well up after recent rain up but running clear. Tough going at first but then 14.00 a big hatch brought everything to life. Loads of takes / hook ups and 5 to the net. Best fish was well over 2lb and the fight it gave was crazy in the fast flow. By 16.00, following a few downpours, the river turned chocolate brown. It was time to head home. Overall very enjoyable first ever trip to the Usk!

Water levels are very high so no need too cast out too far. Only planned on fishing the morning and had 3 on a 4 fish ticket by 09:30 so switched from fishing the bottom over to fly otherwise I’d have been home way to early. Nice to see some fish coming out of there as I had quite a few blank days last season
