Not able to fish today, river too high.
I did walk the length of beat, and I suspect one run off has been done it will fish well. Weekend could be good if no more rain. Pity but will try again.

Perfect conditions today, once the sunshine early on had been overtaken by the cloud.
Much more fly life than on my previous visit, but then it was 3/4 degrees warmer. There was a decent fall of hawthorn around lunchtime. I raised a couple of fish to a dry imitation at the top end, by neither committed (or I was to fast/slow on the strike).
Picked up a couple of nice fish in the river mouth before lunch and the decided to try up by the other river that comes in by the bridge pillars, where a couple more come to the net.
We finished off back at the top end where after about 20 mins, I managed to snap the tip of my #5 weight. I’d bought a spare, a #7 weight, and due to the height of the lake (at least a foot if not two higher than my previous visit), I put on a clear intermediate. This transformed the fishing. I had another 2 nice fish and my friend, who’s new to wbt fishing hooked and lost 2.
This lake always delivers in one way or another. Great day.
All fish came to a Captain Peacock.

Timed one of my very rare trips to the Usk badly, the river was at .76m when I arrived and it was up and coloured.
Having traveled a long way I was reluctant to give up, so I decided to walk the beat to see if I could fish anywhere. My plan was to stay the whole day and hopefully the river might clear up enough.
First thing first this beat is almost totally inaccessible if the water is up and slightly coloured, the steep banks make it very difficult to test the water depth to make a safe entry.
I did however find a place to fish at the top of the beat, where the stream enters.
I tried nymphs of varying size, colour and weight to no avail. I even tried stripping some lures back through the water, which has brought me some success previously when the water was coloured.
Eventually around 3pm some fish began rising, I immediately switched to dry and managed to get 6 fish to rise. Sadly I didn't make contact with any of them. The action lasted about 30 minutes and after that I couldn't get a touch.
I will try this beat again when the conditions are more favourable.

First time on this lovely beat. A full day's fishing.
Mostly cloudy about 14C. Walked to the bottom of the beat and fished my way up. River was completely cloudy as it had been raining the previous days. Lots of insect life, saw the occasional rise and landed a tiddler that way. Tried all sorts of things to overcome the pea-soup and was rewarded with a wonderful brownie that was about 12" I guess. Fabulous fish, happily returned to fight another day. I'll be back :)

What a spectacular place to fish … the drive there was epic ! Persistent rain and a cold breeze throughout todays session but I got there early and used a small silver tungsten herl nymph fished solo to catch all my fish. Wading was pretty easy and you just have to fish this beat …. Awesome countryside and can’t wait to return when something may be hatching !
