A very pleasing start to September on a lovely day with thin cloud, no wind, water 11 degrees and some fly to get fish rising: some sedges in the afternoon and pale wateries from 11 a.m., though no rising fish until 1 p.m. From then on, fish rose here and there until almost 5 .p.m. Bugged during the morning and last thing, and had fish on a few tunghead jigs: a Duracell variant, olive quill and flashback PTN. Most fish in the afternoon came to Goran’s Sedge or to a small PW Duck’s Dun, with one or two on a grizzle EH caddis. Trout from 9-15 inches and grayling from 10-15 inches as well. Biggest trout and grayling,1.5lb. No more rain for a while please!

Enjoyable hour or so at the upper end of the beat. Limited accessibility meant we stayed within about 300 yds of the Ford. Good conditions but no luck!

River was still quite high and banks slippery. Fished a morning and a late afternoon session in two different swims. They were probably the only two swims that I could safely fish from and it was a good job I had a 3m landing net pole otherwise I would have struggled to land anything safely. Enjoyed the fishing finding the fish came in bursts. Good Size Chub and Barbel
in the 2 to 6lb category. Take care on the banks on this stretch, particularly when the level is dropping.

Lovely looking beat

Fished a duo between 10am and 3pm, but to no avail save for 1 small 5” salmon parr on the black magic nymph

Saw only a couple of small fish rising despite a hatch of blue winged olives between 12 and 3pm

The wind had verred to a southerly, and the water was a good level & very clear. Fished from 2.45 and saw nothing until about 7pm. Then hooked two and caught one of about 2lbs, all on a nymph near the tail of broken water runs.

Fished the meadow. Very overgrown nowadays with what looks like Himalayan balsam, and brambles.
