Braved the hill in monsoon conditions and fished the first field after the woods. The river was tanking through but managed to find a decent slack and had a barbel first cast and lost one second cast. Then had a nice session around lunch time with a bite a chuck for 2 hours. 6 barbel to 8-9 but lost just as many in the fast flow. A cracking fishery.

My nephew Josh, caught a 7lb Barbel on the 1st cast of the day from the Dead Tree peg, used feeder with bacon grill on a hair hook. River was running fast, so the bait was only cast 10 yds out. This was the only fish / bite of the day.

We decided to brave the horrendous weather and headed out in torrential rain and wind. My accomplice and I tried two up stream swims for an hour with usual feeder tactics. The water was rising and our 1.75lb TC rods were unable to withstand the flow. I was considering going to get a carp rod from the van when the bailiff arrived who was a very helpful and after short chat said we would be better off at the end of the beat in the rock pool as the water would be calmer. Not one to ignore the bailiffs advice we set off to the end of the beat to the rock pool. The rain was still hammering it down and the banks were a extremely slippery and muddy. I baited up with X 5 ground bait and boilie packed feeders and was instantly awarded with a 4lb chub. After thei the barbel moved in and the action was pretty much non -stop until we packed up at 17.00 I had barbel of 8lb,8lb9oz, 6lb and 4lb my mate had an 8lb and a 6lb. All on boilie and ground bait. Beautiful place especially the autumnal woods behind. Will defiantly return. Easy parking if that’s your thing and beautiful fish.

Braved the torrential rain on Home Fishery and got rewarded with my new PB of 11lb! 1 bite, 1 fish and my first ever double. Caught in slack water on a spicy sausage boilie wrapped in my homemade cheese paste.
Chuffed is an understatement - been a real struggle on my home turf (River Severn) so this more than makes up for it.
Fishing karma struck later, rushing to open a tin of spam. My hitch hiking career is over

Not an easy day as the river came up a metre over night and was still coming up all day but fished the first field with ground bait/pellet feeder and meat on hook and was fortunate to catch a PB barbel of 9lb 9oz. Really pleasant day although the walk back up the hill was challenging.

Nice beat in beautiful countryside, wasn’t as tranquil as I would of liked as road opposite was quite busy all day. Beautiful woods behind the meadow swims and at the end of the beat. Hard fishing today water was pushing through. Started in the second wood swim and kept getting snagged and reeling in blunted hooks. Having not seen the beat when the water is low I was unsure of what was down there. Lost a fish as it got in the flow, I couldn’t stop it and my line parted as it rubbed against an underwater obstacle. Tried usual feeder tactics and rolling meat all day throughout various swims but to no avail-water was too fast today and I was underprepared. My mate winkled out a pristine 6lb 8oz on rolling meat in one of the meadow swims. All in all I would like to see the beat on calmer conditions. The amount of debris coming down was surprising -even a whole tree at one point!. We was concerned about egress as the route down was steep , we was in a Renault traffic van but still managed to get out quite easily without any issue.

Beautiful location, lovely weather conditions but high river was rising fast. One of the chub was 5lbs++ PB, and the barbel were 7lbs and 8lbs and fought like hell in a fast flow. Not too many fish, but a wonderful day on the Wye nonetheless.
