Very slow start to the day , took a gamble with it being bank holiday , canoe traffic wasn’t too bad though .
Arrived first light , no bites whatsoever tried all three pools , feeder & float tactics .
Went home & returned for the evening, river full of life , Chub swirling ….the return paid off , 4 small barbel & one around 8lb to finish off with along a rogue chub .
All fish coming to meat & pellet on the feeder

5 Barbel, 1 Chub

Judging by the puddles in Sned Wood car park when I arrived de bonne heure, it had rained heavily overnight. This was reflected in the river which, while still running low, had a milky tint to it. This beat was already in need of some TLC; the more so now, as the recent storm has brought down another couple of trees. Not that the Grayling appeared to mind; with fish from most of the runs I fished as I made my way up river. Unlike my last visit, with no lunch time fry up to distract me, I ventured downstream in the afternoon; where it was equally prolific. Only 3 Trout, but let's call in 30 Grayling ; mostly fish in the 7-8" bracket, with a handful of larger fish, and all caught on the same tungsten nymph

3 Trout, 30 Grayling

Despite the previous days rain, the river was coloured and only up slightly, not the deluge we expected?
The whole day turned out very hard going and bites were slow despite the overcast conditions.
At first light and 3 hour later the first real bite came, a decent 6lb Barbel, unfortunately the only barbel of the day.
Chub bites were few and far between, but when they came i was either taking a drink or eating a sandwich, lots of bites missed, could have been eels... i don't know, never the less enjoyable day.
Canoe traffic was extreme at one point, i counted 32 that passed me in 10mins, but all courteous and polite.

Thanks WUF & land owners for proving great access to a great river with all the wildlife that comes with it..!

Fished the beach from 12-7pm river in great condition but bites were slow with only 5 chub falling to meat and pellet on feeder. Very bright conditions which may have played a part but river looked in great condition.

One note the gate entering into the bottom field needs looking at the post supporting the hinges also supports the corner of all the boundary cables for that field and when opening the post falls out the hole. Wouldn't want to be responsible for live stock on the loose because of this so admin worth mentioning to the farmer.
