River was in good nick and conditions favourable for March. One other angler fishing , who had fished the fishery quite a lot.
Decent amount of swims with good variety and good accessibility. Ledger tactics with meat and maggots accounted for some nice chub but no barbel. Other were 2 great condition trout. Other angler caught about 4 or 5 chub
Arrival of bailiff with multiplier spinning outfit, spinning though my swim was a bit unusual but not totally surprising. He was a decent chap.

GARNONS, 28lb salmon for Ricky Reno at 1.30pm. Took a red fc.
What a fight, jumping and stripping line.

Fishing Passport Note : The fish was initially reported as 28lb but the tape was misread and recalculated as 15lb.

The day started clear and sunny, about 7C when I started fishing at 1030. Breeze picked up from 11 and the best is quite exposed so I felt the cold, especially when it clouded over at noon. Water is a brisk 4C and I forgot my thermals so was chilled to the bone and finished at 3 as a few spots of rain started.

No hatch or other fly life seen and no fish made themselves obvious. I tried heavy bugs in the deep channels, nymphs drifted under dries and spiders fished down and across - nothing doing today.

Good access to the beat which feels nice and secluded. I imagine it will be lovely when a tad warmer!

Water conditions good. Lovely warm day with olives and the occasional March brown but nothing rising to the hatches. 1 hard fighting but skinny 15” trout on a nymph

My first chub was just shy of 5lbs so that was a great start. But I struggled after that until the late afternoon when the chub seemed to switch on again. No barbel - I think the water was still too cold after so many nights of frost. Very easy fishing here with lots of accessible swims and few steep banks.
