Great afternoon on the Honddu. This must be one of the best small trout streams in Wales. We caught plenty of fish on dry flies and nymphs, many of them between 8oz and 1lb. Lots more spooked, missed and lost. Extra water from recent rains a great help when fishing this stream.

Tough day, river well up after recent rain. Fished slack water on 2 swims with very little to show for our efforts. Lovely beat and will be back in better conditions.

Great looking beat, river up around five feet coloured and pacy. I fished the wood section which in hindsight was probably a mistake, as the flow was quickest here and impossible to hold bottom so had to stick to the margins. One eel, two chub 4lb each and a barbel 8lb 2oz. One more small barbel in the top section to finish the day. Many thanks W&U

River running very strongly due to rain in previous days, lots of debris coming down the river, tried trotting a float mostly and a feeder later.
No joy on either, not even a definite bite from 8am to 2.30pm.
Tried corn, pellet and luncheon meat.

Much better fishing today, river up a bit more and nicely coloured. Started the day off with 2 Barbel and a 5lb Chub. Nipped back to the car for something and when I got back to my swim there was a man sat in my chair wearing a pearly suit. I asked him where he had come from and he replied "down sarf". He told me that he aspired to catch a Barbel off the River Wye, and that he had heard that I was a master in the art of catching Barbel. I decided to take this "Padawan" under my wing and show him the ropes! Joking apart, myself and my new fishing buddy "Rich" had a great days fishing and plenty of laughs along the way. Between us we had 11 Barbel and 6 Chub and it was great to help a fellow angler fulfill his wish of catching a Wye Barbel or two. Great days fishing with great company. Hopefully I will be back again soon when the river is back to normal levels and maybe catch a few Barbel on the float.

River slightly up and coloured with varied cloud and sun and a range of gnats, medium olives and the odd late mayfly about all day. Amazing to see Redstarts flitting out of the riverside bushes and catching the mayflies in mid air. All grayling came to dries, Adams or small hairs ear f-fly, the most respectable sized trout at 12" to a copper headed PTN fished below a Parachute Adams. It is years since I visited this beat and I was amazed at how much the floods had scoured new pools from the small stones and gravel.
