Fished for 8 hours not a bite £21 down the drain. Greated this morning by 4 poachers as they were leaving their night shift not even they caught a fish between them. Last time I fish here.

A superb day’s fishing in challenging conditions. Storm Ellen was giving a steady 30mph southerly with occasional 50+ mph gusts. 12 fish ( all returned ) mainly to a coch-y-bonddu variant that I tie with a springier hackle beneath the hen hackle so that it pulses when pulled. I used a tungsten bead head fly on the point to anchor the flies in the strong wind. I only caught 1 on this fly but it did its job.
As a teenager, I was a member of Dolgarrog Fishing Club. After today, I’m going to see if I can rejoin!

Stream clearing down faster than anything else in either Usk or Wye catchments. Enjoyable few hours but quite challenging to target my casts given the very blustery conditions. All the same, 3 trout 8”-10” to dry fly.

12 inch trout taken on a nymph. Lost another. Couple of rises to a dry early evening. Very little surface activity from fish overall. Windy but better water conditions than earlier in the week. Mergansers and a cormorant.
