Desperate to get out grayling fishing I had been watching the river level slowly coming down and with more rain forecast decided to take a chance and book the beat. Having checked the river level just before leaving and saw it was rising again my fears were confirmed as I drove over the river at Pembridge noting the amount of water and its grey colour. Fortunately had put the float rod in and some maggots as fishing the fly would have been impossible. Caught a very small grayling from the margins early on and a 6" trout from just above the weir at the bottom of the beat. Five hours of fresh air and solitude. Will keep watching the levels and return again soon.

A really tough day, the river was dropping but still high, No slack water to be found so resulted in 180g feeders to hold bottom. With loads of slack water on the far side you could see exactly where the fish would be.

River dropping but still very high. A brace of 9lb fish and 2 smaller was our reward for perseverance. Fantastic day. All fish from Leg Meadow swims.

didnt fish much today. even though the river had gone down quite a bit from yesterday there is nowhere you can get in the water here unless it is quite low. on the plus side it is possibly the best parking spot on the entire river and a nice comfy sofa in front of the hut where i spent sometime drinking tea and watching the river. i am a little bit confused why the top of the beat ends half way up the owners field where the is a nice flat that would have been easily fishable, but appears to be out of bounds ?

as much as i love this beat, when the water is high it is very difficult and somewhat dangerous too fish ! ( 8.5 on ddol gauge )
luckily it was crystal clear so i could see where i was going but it was running so fast it was hard too stand ! and to cap it all the wind got up during the morning and filled the river up with leaves !. somehow i managed to catch a tiny grayling later on which somewhat saved the day.
