Lovely day back again on my favourite stretch of the Wye - more water than usual and looked fishy
Arrived about 0930 and saw someone else at the top end so started at the middle.

Sadly despite my best efforts no fish seen or caught other than bycatch minuscule brownie near The Rocks
- I blame the weather which was very hot (30 +) but someone else managed a good fish on the same beat
that day so a poor excuse

Wading warning in a couple of spots :
There are a couple of very glassy rocks at the top of the island beat - just below where one usually stands to cover the best bits. Be very careful as slipped twice here this time.
At the top end neck of the Rectory stream it is appealing to wade out but can be difficult to get back against the current.
I have come a cropper here before and nearly did again this time.
Retired to the fishing Hut at about 4pm to listen to Stokesy put the Aussies to the sword so all in all not a bad day
Until next time

This was my first time fishing the Usk, Llangynydr is a stunning location not far from Crickhowell , a very small village but lots of people here today as there was a festival happening.
Access to the river is good , parking is pretty close , lovely little shop in the village where you can get a slice of cake and a cuppa , which I did , very nice !
The track along the river is very rocky and slippy , if your not very surefooted be careful, I love anything like this though .
Unfortunately there were lots and lots of swimmers in here today , lots of commotion , it was to be expected though due to the great weather, and it being a bank holiday weekend .
Gave the fishing a good go but no success today , but on the positive side a great day here on the Usk , just beautiful. Will return in early spring when it’s less busy

One 10inch trout on a nymph in a deep pool in very hot and bright conditions. Missed a fish later on in the day that rose to a caddis

Lovely location, but saw only four fish in the whole day. Little insect life, and no fish rising. Nothing caught.

Blank. Plenty of fish showing in the river, but we necessarily fished through the day in bright sun and no takes.

I had a beautiful evening fishing this wonderful stretch of the Usk. Yes access is tricky but not impossible. I'd advise the use of a stout wading staff on the banks with quite a lot of clambering to be expected. This river is absolutely teeming with trout, many of which seem to be some considerable size. Despite careful presentation of a dry fly I could not induce takes on the slow moving shallower sections where trout were freely rising to sedge (I think?). From 7 onwards things got more exciting and after many takes missed I managed a beauty of a fish (around 2lbs) on a black parachute fished upstream. My second of the evening was on the same fly fished across and down into a run that was clearly teeming with fish.
