Perfect weather, sunny intervals and some cloud cover. Water in its bones but managed 2 gorgeous healthy WBT. One a pound and a half on Ballon Caddis in fast ripple. The second stalked and targeted in pool tail with rusty klinkhammer. Fab day.

This report and the one before it is for two anglers CT and AW - a total of 3 barbel caught - fell to one angler - CT.
The river has dropped a foot from last week and has cleared totally. We now need some rain to put some water back on it and colour things up a little. The canoe traffic was absolutely horrendous today - floatila's of canoes constantly, with people swimming on the opposite bank and dogs swimming fetching sticks - it was terrible today!

Terrible days fishing-Fished the Bay Area with a number of other anglers fishing. Reservoir like a Mill pond. No fish rising all day, no one catching anything no even the Perch—-First blank I have had here in a long time-Don’t mind not catching but would have been nice to see some activity

Fly fished the top end. Evidence of bait fishing but no rubbish problems.
Hard work, as the rainbows were't playing I went after brownies catching one.
Friendly and very helpful wardens. The road up to the tower has lots of pot holes so need a 4x4 or something with clearance to get up there.
Spoke to a few anglers during the day and unfortunately there seems to be an ongoing problem with illegal fishing methods and night fishing. Shame as it's such a picturesque venue.
Still I had an enjoyable day even if it was hard work.

River very low and glides very slow. 0.39m on the Elan guage keeping the water temperature down to 15 degrees. Mainly sunny and quite calm. Some midge, saw no upwings all day, intermittent sedge returnees at times and not much sign of errant terrestrials on the water. So, very little to encourage fish to rise, though there were a few sippers in foam lanes, all of which proved to be trout. Didn't raise a graying all day and only managed to find two on a nymph fished duo. Also dredged a few of the usual likely spots, and others currently more accessible, with heavier artillery but only managed to connect with another trout. Best trout 16 inches which, together with most of the others, was taken on a dark HE CDC sedge pattern, which also caught the most interesting catch of the day, a 4.5lb chub - not what I came expecting to fish for but a welcome lump nonetheless. It was one of a shoal on the fin in clear, shallow, sluggish water at the bottom of the beat. Having set the ambush, and once caught, most of the rest of the fish followed it for several minutes until they were about two rods length away, at which point and much as expected, they all just melted away! Apologies to all holiday-makers, but bring on the rain and lots of it - our rivers need a good clear out before September.
