First time out since Lockdown and what a gorgeous spring day to be on the river, so good to be back fishing again. Two of us fished, a pain having to travel in two cars due to social distancing but there is ample parking. After a walk across the fields the river looked perfect, plenty of fly life, the odd Mayfly and lots of Caddis among the usual olives. Both of us were a bit rusty after the lay off but we both managed a fish each on drys with plenty of action from lightening fast small trout which were either missed or came off, never mind, a great day on the river on a lovely bit of water. Just be careful of the barbed wire.

Second visit to the pool Great to be out fishing after lockdown Two roach caught
Beautiful lake in a really nice setting Lots of big carp seen I had them feeding off the top with dog biscuits but they were to clever for me
If only this lake was well stocked But it’s got some big carp to try and catch if you can I would think many not even caught

River is already low and very clear. No rises in the morning and did spot a few May flies. Afternoon many more rises although small. A lot more May flies in the afternoon. Caught two brownies roughly 1.5-2lbs on a slow sinking nymph. Tried dry emergers but no takes. Second brown caught was injured, possibly Cormorant.

A great day to fish a beautiful beat.
Sadly the fish did not participate but it was peaceful and novel to enjoy the water without canoes.
If you’re planning to cross the bridge between banks half way along the beat please be aware that the Forestry Commission have closed it due to flood damage.
