Challenging conditions with already swollen river continuing to rise during the morning. We managed to mug a barbel each before river became unfishable at lunchtime so retired to the pub !

Not a great end to the season for us...we arrived with limited expectations due to the state or should we say spate of the river which continued to rise during the course of the day.A cold wind and showers blowing into our face all day did not lift the mood much either!! A couple of tentative bites missed resulted us in blanking on this productive beat...our lack of experience in these type of conditions probably to blame though....But we consoled ourselves with a great meal and night in the Cottage of Content up the road and decided in the morning to cut our fishing weekend short and make the long trek back home.
On a final note many thanks to WUF and owners of all the beats for allowing us the opportunity to fish on the magical Wye...and to all our fellow anglers who take the time to post a report...just hope it is better than this one for you!!!

two trout caught on worm, and lost two. Temperature was very cold and very strong winds hampered our efforts. Rain/sleet on and off mid morning onwards and that resulted in us packing up much earlier than normal. Water level was high and to be honest it was so cold and windy we did not attempt spinning.

Considering its early season and weather conditions we were pleased with our catch, as the trout were large. For once we were not pestered by the crayfish.
