River level very low with little oxygen. It was always going to be a struggle on a very hot and sunny day.

Just a few hours on the river before the drive home after our week on the Wye. Worst time of the day to fish. No barbel tempted, just a couple of chub and five lovely eel. To sum up our week, it's been terrific. Fished 6 different beats and enjoyed them all. The wildlife as usual always adds to the enjoyment.
If you are in to numbers we had 110 barbel between the two of us and plenty of chub also.

Looking forward to returning already.

Very difficult day on a low river and a very humid hot day, tried different methods but could not find the Barbel. Just one caught and two small chub. The wood stretch is very snaggy and we lost half a dozen feeders.
Note: very disappointed when arrived at one of the cribs to find at least 30m of fishing line on the croy and loads of rubbish which can only be from a fishermen as the rubbish was packaging from fishing related products. I took all this away but feel just had to mention my disappointment.

WUF note many thanks for removing the rubbish. What can we say that hasn't been said many times over?

First visit to this stretch, plenty of good swims to go at. River low and clear, caught 4 eels and 1 barbel on meat and feeder. Think they should have w&uf fishing signs up to make it clear its private fishing!

Day fishing on 8th July spoilt by a family throwing rocks and swimming. When I looked over at them they just did it all the more. Clearly marked signs say swimming is not allowed but they took no notice. My partner went up to the visitor centre to complain , asked in the cafe who to complain to and was sent to the main building which was locked with a note saying the ranger was out on duty. Couldn't find ranger. When they went another couple came down for a swim. Really annoyed that I paid for the day and it was spoilt by this have been fishing here for years, but will think twice before going again.

First time on this beat. Hot day, started a little after 7pm. Water was very low and slow. One trout about 7" on a pale watery at the bottom end of the beat but much of the following stretch up to the junction pool with the Dulas had holiday makers from the caravan park paddling and playing with their dogs so wasn't really fishable - couldn't really blame them with the heat. Above the junction pool the stream was even lower and moving so slowly as to appear almost stagnant in places. Lots of fallen trees (one root bowl blocking the channel was enormous, at least 6' across) meant that the stream was a series of muddy pools and I climbed over three significant obstructions before giving up and heading back. One of the obstructions was so thick with twigs and rubbish accumulated that I imagine it must make a pretty effective dam and cause flooding in the winter.
A handful of grayling in a larger muddy pool above the final obstruction were just interested enough for one to sip my pale watery meaning I ended the evening with a final fist, about 6".

WUF Note: Thank you for the feedback, from your tip-off we have since been through this beat and cleared these obstructions, the 'after' pics are now in the page gallery.
