Much better day today, catching a barbel with the first cast after baiting a swim the day before. Finally found a clear swim opposite a willow tree and and a small 10ft by 12ft wall on the opposite bank to the right of the big house garden

Biggest barbel 8lb
Chub 4lb
Great condition

One superb grayling of about a pound and three OOS brownies. All taken from the lovely little glide on the far side of the bridge pool. Clink and dink did the trick.

Well what a day.
The stream is surprisingly difficult to fish with many fallen/overhanging trees preventing good access, so working up the beat will involve a relative amount of scrambling in and out of the water. For this reason PLEASE be careful and don't fish this beat if you are looking for an easy days work.
I fished from around 11am until 4pm, with lunch in-between. During this period I managed to catch 7 grayling in total, 5 of which were over a pound and one that was around the 2lb mark! I couldn't believe what I was seeing considering the size of the stream! The bigger fish were all taken out of the slower, deeper stretches of water in-between some of the quicker runs. I did see a couple of fish rising, but in the end all of mine were caught Czech nymphing, a style I'm finally getting the hang of. My first fish was taken around half way up the beat due to poor access, so don't be afraid to keep moving fairly rapidly from the start of the beat, access does get better further up.

A final note -

1. Be careful of the field just across the stream from where the car is parked (by the bridge), there are cows in there with young ones and they are VERY aggressive.

2. In a lot of places the farmer has put electric fences up to keep the cows in, so again PLEASE be careful of these, especially if you're taking your kids/grandkids along.

3. The stream varies quite widely from very shallow runs to un-wadeable deep pools, so be mindful and pick and choose your opportunities to go in and out of the water, you will not fish 100% of this beat its just not possible.

Unseasonably warm and sunny with the river back at Summer Levels and clear, so prospects did not look good. Big baits seemed off the menu now with little response to pellets or even corn. Everything caught on maggots.

Suprisingly caught well on a bright warm sunny day. River recorded at 550mm high (at Ross-on-Wye) look perfect after the recent flood levels. Barbel to circa 8lb, chub to circa 4.5lb. Lost a considerable barbel that initially started off by trying to take my rod off the rest.
Fished 2 x 10mm pellets behind a hemp / pellet / groundbait feeder and caught steadily throughout the day.
It's hard packing up to go home on good days like these. Ah well, here's to next year's season (last trip for this year, for me to the Wye).
A beautiful part of the country, and very peaceful.
