Bit of a slow day today. River at a nice level and fished from the bridge up to the weir then called it there after a few hours. All 3 were on the small side from riffles on a pheasant tail. Bumped into J.A. from Leominster as I was about to head off, who'd had a fair bit more success on the downstream Hergest beat, all credit to him. Hard work for few returns but a nice day nonetheless! cheers

Well a nice morning , having booked the Hergest Court beat of the Arrow , neighbouring the Kington beat downstream of it , and ending at Hergest Bridge !!!! Can't really see why it's not on the Wild Streams permit seems odd but there you go !!!!!
Anyway , parked up half eight ish , in the roadside layby , and bimbled down to the start ish !!!!! Of the beat , think I started at the weir up from the very bottom one , anyway , water looked great , tied on an eighteen Parachute Adams see how it faired , and very well from the off to be honest . . . First fish , tubby little brownie of about nine inches from the weir pool , in the faster water , nice start . . . .
Lovely series of pools , riffles and glides here , spoilt for choice really with the Arrow , and I guess that's why I've never fished it , that and the fact it's twenty quid for the day !!!! But was a really fun one , lovely feisty fish , brought nine to the net today in the five hours I was there , sizes ranged from seven to eleven inches , Some superb savage takes on the dry .
Two of the fish I caught on GRHE , good strong pulls , and cracking fish , first time I've fished a nymph in donkeys , must be three months or more !!! Wildlife was busy busy here too this morning , thought I saw the Tail of an otter as it slinked away , I did wonder why that particular section of river was quiet , also plenty of activity from the kingfishers , up and down all morning , and also a dipper , Great to see . . . . .
Stones were alive with caddis and larvae , nymphs , absolutely alive with invertebrae , really good sign , thoroughly enjoyed my five hour chill out here , nine gorgeous brownies caught , and I did meet Toby , parked in the Kington beat pull in , he was just packing up , and he also had had a good mornings sport on that beat , nice chap ,and always good to exchange some views and tactics etc etc . . . . . . . . A fun five hours will be back soon , this one should be on the Wild Streams Permit . . . . Happy days !!!!! Come on WUF use your persuasive powers , it's a stream and it's wild , simples !!!!!

Fished the lower section from the racecourse up to below the weir. Saw a couple of fish rising in the morning, but nothing in the afternoon. Tried all sorts - black spider wet, Greenwell dry and nymphs but nothing taking. Loads of Himalayan balsam on this stretch, would need several days work to clear it.

Great to return to this special remote place after four years, windy and wet but two hours where two good fish with the unique black dorsal fin were caught and released, taken on a nymph, fish were deep due to conditions, no rises. Would like to spend more time here but rarely in the area, just managed to get a few hours on my own from the families holiday itinerary.
Definitely track for 4WD or good ground clearance only, note no mobile signal re health and safety. As I arrived and some walkers were just parking in the gateway to the track, not sure they were used to country code!?
