On the river before 6am fished the mill stream and meck of the rectory. Saw one salmon moving in the mill stream but that was about it. Came back after breakfast and switched to trout fishing. Stood on the bridge spotting my friend. Landed a nice graying of a 1lb and a half but that was it for the day!

River level was low, did not see a single fish or any activity. Park at Vaynor Church and walked upstream and down stream, enjoyed the location but no sign of fish.

Conditions unchanged from Saturday. Warm and not a cloud in the sky. Despite that I enjoyed good sport from 11.30-1pm on a nymph/spider rig, with three nice fish of 17”15”and 12” coming to the net. Flies: Copper John, Waterhen Bloa (x2).

As the temperature rose, the fish went down and so it was perhaps less annoying than it might otherwise have been to find three poachers upstream of the bridge (they left quickly) and numerous bathers above them. Most irritating of all were the mother, two small children and five dogs who swam/waded across my favourite dryfly glide. Let it rain soon please !

If I could only fish one beat for the rest of my life, this would be it. Dry flats, deep gutters, pools, riffles, the lot. Plenty of flies hatching. Easily accessible even with a dodgy knee. Abundant fry suggest it's heaving with fish. However a tight schedule meant I had to leave after lunch on a sunny hot day, and sadly I had nary a sniff of a fish despite several changes of tactics. I can imagine the evening would have been epic, so I'll look forward to returning.
A kingfisher in early morning sun was a happy bonus, as was dedicated parking right by the gate to the river.

Very hot day out today with very little wind.

My first time out on this beat and sadly I blanked, I did manage to hook a fish early on but unfortunately it threw the hook before I got it to hand.

A lovely beat with some very deep pools.

This was my first try on this beat for three or four years and I'd forgotten what a wonderful stretch of river Titley is.

Arriving at around 10am there was still quite a push of water coming down the Arrow, carrying its greyish tinge. In the first pool above the bridge a small trout slashed at a klinkhammer. A larger one then took and let go of the goldhead a cast later in roughly the same spot. A few yards upstream came the first of my two fish of the day on nymph. Both were typically beautiful 9 inch Arrow trout: colourful and healthily plump.

There were a few medium sized upwings in the air and one or two sedge but I didn't see a rise all day. The riverbed is carpeted with caddis though. Lifting the stones reveals an enormous number of other invertebrates - a welcome sign of the Arrow's water quality.

By the time I'd reached the weir it was a blazing hot afternoon so I didn't bother trying below the bridge, even though I've had some good fish from that section. After an Easter weekend of high temperatures, it felt to me as though the Arrow was still to fully awaken from the otherwise cold spring. I'm sure things will be different in a week or two's time.
