Very bright and still. Beaded nymph early on, then CDC olive emerger. I seemed to excel at losing fish today.

Beautiful spring day in the valley, lots of wildlife and flowers in bloom. The river itself was at a good height, running strongly but crystal clear. A steady variety of flies hatching 11 to 3.30, but only saw a couple of rises in one pool - enough for me to try a dry, but they were not interested in the adams or olive varieties I offered. Did not rise for long either. No interest either in the nymphs, weighted or not, so a blank. The water was still very cold, so a week or two yet. Still a lovely day to be out and to practise the small sream casting!

River at a good height (0.19 at llandewi), water v clear. Beautiful sunny day. Fished the bottom 2/3 of the beat. 3 trout to the net on a hares ear fished on a French leader. Largest just over a pound. Surprisingly lots of space for casting, but means that spooking is easily done.

Caught on nymphs, spiders and dry flies, trout up to 1½lb. There was a hatch of mostly March Browns and Large Dark Olives 12-1, and a brief rise. Full sun all day was unhelpful and the water was very clear. But a nice day and saw dippers and plenty of kingfishers

A beautiful warm spring day and an amazing hatch of march browns that only lasted for 45 minutes. The hatch got one or two fish moving but they were hard to catch. Ended up with 1 fish of 1 3/4lb and a few missed. A few olives were showing but no interest from the trout. We tried nymphs but no takers.

First day out this season. River 0.82m steady and clear. Weather (too) beautiful and beat looking fantastic as usual. Spent a few hours disturbing the usual lies with the 15 footer but no sign of salmo salar. Common sense eventually prevailed and then spent a couple of very enjoyable hours trying to entice the local trout population. Grannom hatched in variable quantities from 10 till 3 but few fish rising. Only the occasional L.D.O. seen and no March Browns . Had a very feisty 8 oz brownie on a Grannom pupa and two other pulls. Then retired to a certain fishing tackle shop for a cup of tea. A hugely enjoyable day.
