In total contrast to the last time i fished when the river was way up!River back down to normal winter level. At present this stretch is being very kind to me as on a glorious spring like day in the Wye Valley I recorded my third double from this beat. only the one barbel but what a stunning looking beast and in mint condition and what a scrap - 10lb 7oz of pure perfection. The bite came out of the blue in late afternoon and finished the day off with a couple of chub at dusk. Will be back real soon!!

1 x grayling 14 inches. Pleasantly warm and cloudy, but seemingly not a very good day for my fishing. I was experimenting with a team of leaded grayling fancy flies and had a few tentative takes, but failed to connect with all except one. No olives at all seen today.

First time on this beat. The river was lower than I expected and it soon became obvious that any grayling would be holed up in the deeper pools. I decided to fish nymphs, both tight line and duo and sure enough the fish came from the deepest few pools. Although it was quite mild, the wind picked up and so I cut short the trip.

This is a nice beat with excellent access and easy wading - just need a bit more flow.

I caught eight grayling between one and two pounds in weight. Method used was long trotting with maggot. Although I tried many pools all the fish were caught in one spot.
