Short session - 9 small brown trout. It helps to be able to cast with either hand here.

Fished from about 8:30 am til about 1 pm ,me and my young sons spent more time with our Griffith's Sparkle Gnat in the trees and bushes than in the water, but I managed to bring to hand a lovely brown trout at about 5 inches and lost about 4 more, quite a few small fish seen rising too. I should have wore long sleeves as arms covered in mosquito bites.seemed to be a lot of varied flying insects about, did not manage to try whole beat with kids, but look forward to going back in proper stealth mode. Also watch out for barbed wire when climbing in and out.

Bought a day ticket from The Bait Shack in Merthyr Tydfil, fished from about 12-4 pm, with lots of fumbling around and being hungover and having lunch.
Cycled up to trefechan and accessed the river from there.
Its a beautiful location to fish, the river is narrow and overgrown with lots of trees for you to lose your favourite flies on. Water was very clear and low, day was warm and sunny.
I fished with a tenkara rod and started off with heavy nymphs, and then switched to a dry foam beetle. Both methods caught fish equally as well in their own way.
My impression is that the river is teeming with small fish, the ones I caught were all less than 20 cm long but very athletic. I lost around half a dozen fish mostly due to having to work around lots of obstacles and trying to be as careful as possible with such small trout.
My impression is that the river is teeming with small trout but its not easy fishing.
The trout are very spooky and I’d often see them darting around pools as soon as I was in eyeshot, even when I wasn’t close or I was on a high bank. I saw a few dog walkers so I can see why, from the trout’s point of view human = incoming dog.
Am likely to return as its really nice fishing. If I can, with a shorter rod (mine is 12ft).

Rocked up at the Litton beat having fished a neighbouring beat of the club I'm in during a couple of hours in the morning , from the onset brownies hammering the mayfly , and plenty of other upwings on manoeuvres too !!!!! Including Coch y bonddu beetle , as the field I walked down to the river was alive with them , absolutely crawling with the little beetles , great to see . . . . .
A warm muggy day , reading nineteen degrees when I set up at half ten , lovely weather for dries , I'd say ! And it certainly was , trout smashing my grey Wulff , and Mohican mayfly with aggression and with some serious gusto !!!!!
Most fish were in the eight to ten inch range , but in a tally of twenty three I had five seriously tubby brownies , that put up a good bend in the six foot , two weight rod , Great stuff !!!!! Some in the thirteen maybe fourteen inch range . . . , in gorgeous condition !!!!!
A lot of catapult casting and spending a lot of the day on my knees in the stream , but under the canopy was the place to be today on a hot one like today . . . . . . Easy to cast kneeling , and certainly more stealthy .
Called it a day at half three , superb sport , with some gorgeous fish brought to hand , and twenty three caught , with half a dozen throwing the barbless hook , as it was difficult to keep them on the large bushy fly !!! Still a fantastic few hours went home a happy Chappy , a few ambers nectars out with Mrs A. later . What could be better , happy days . . . . . . . . . . . One to remember while I'm supping my Stowford Press later on !
