My first ever salmon fishing experience. Some algae bloom but water fishable. Extremely sunny and hot day so fished early morning on the fly up to 1130 with excellent guidance and instruction from the resident ghillie, Mick. Not much evidence of salmon except for one rather acrobatic specimen. Canoeists began passing from about 10am.

Very hot day with hardly any sign of fish moving about. I found the upper stretches virtually unfishable due to access and found only a few pegs on the lower level where you could safely fish. All fish came to luncheon meat fished over loose pellet feeding.

An very hot, bright sunny day with lowish water levels I should judge (though this was my first time on this beat). Occasional signs of Mayfly and other hatching flies and sporadic rises by small fish. I took three small brownies on a Parachute Adams (and lost three more) and then made the mistake of changing to a Humpy and a Pheasant Tail nymph with the unintended result of hooking myself securely in my left hand, a misuse of a nymph if ever there was one. I can warmly recommend the staff of the A&E Department at Nevill Hall Hospital!

Arrived later in the day and decided to trot a float through several areas. A very good stretch of river where I find trotting for chub very rewarding, had my pb chub of 5lb 6oz. Used corn throughout.
