Great 2 days of fishing! First time on the Wye. Couple of takes only. Big learning curve not least the absolute necessity of a wading stick if you want to stay vertical! Will definitely be back to fish this beautiful water.

Cefni Catch Report week ending 26th May 2019.

May continues to see exceptional catches of fish both in numbers and quality. Insect life is booming this time of year, and the fishing as the record book will attest too has been superb. Lines together with flies continue to be mixed and varied, with the normal array of lures, boobies, nymphs etc taking the majority of fish. Damsels nuymphs, tadpoles, buzzers, daphnia and hawthorn are all evident this past few weeks, while spooning fish showing a mixed and healthy varied diet these fish have this time of the month.

Productive areas seem to be all over, with good drifts along the Railway towards the Damn, higher end of the lake near the bales, or in and around the sheltered bays all seem to be holding fish. A good average of 5.1 fish this past few weeks indicate some very good sport has been had by most visiting and regular anglers.

The annual Cefni outing to Brenig on Sunday 26th May 2019, saw a very good turn out with 10 fishing and 55 fish caught.
Two of our juniors members Kyle Williams and Aron Jones both did exceptionally well and caught fish in tough conditions, well done to both and thank you to their respective boat partners for ghilling.

Myself and Jonathan Roberts took heaviest bag with 12 fish at 23lb 5oz, and myself taking heaviest fish at 2lb 14oz.
Conditions it must be said were not easy, heavy rain, sunshine and at times the lake resembling the Atlantic Ocean! The fish were of good quality hard fighting and a big thank you to all involved organizing a great day.

Had another go on the beat to see if fishing improved with the warmer temepratures. Caught a few trout in the 6" to 9" range in the top half of the beat. Moved on to the Llynfi Dulas to see if mayflies are hatching.

Very low and clear water. Strong wind blowing along the river. Only fished the fist part of the beat along the field. Small hatch of mayflies, but bigger trout were rising under submerged branches....
Caught a few small ones.

My brother and I had a wonderful days fishing with very tricky fishing with the dry fly only. The fish were rising to a whole range of flies, but often very selectively. We caught 6 brownies the best being around 1 3/4 pounds.
