As yesterday the barbel were small other than one 7 pounder and again were caught just above the bottom crib on single 8mm pellet being spicy sausage, halibut or krill. We thoroughly enjoyed our fishing and the easy access from car to peg was particularly welcome.

2 hrs evening fly fishing. Very little surface action. Minimal visible fish activity. All fish caught within stretch 0.2miles u/s chapel. River coloured after rain 48-36hrs before. Water very low. Sky grey. Air cool. Slight cold breeze. Occasional very light drizzle. Grayling all caught rising to a small Parachute Adams Brownie caught nymphing with a gold headed stonefly nymph. All fish around a pound & in g ood condition. All released from barbless hooks & recovered quickly.
This was very much a ‘last minute’ opportunity for a quick flick of the fly at the end of a cycling holiday & despite the conditions & late time, it was a lovely couple of hours on a lovely little beat. I would have loved to have explored more of the beat & can’t wait to make a return, specifically to fish, when I can dedicate a whole day to the Irfon.
The online system worked simply & brilliantly, really good instructions sent once booked & am very grateful to Mr Charlie Nutting for getting me fishing quickly when I turned up in-announced at his door.
Many thanks Wye & Usk Foundation Fishing Passport & to the landowner for this brief but enjoyable opportunity to fish this lovely spot.

Fished this venue before and like last time nothing happened till the afternoon. Can't blame the canooists in the morning even though they choose like us the fastest water to use. Downstream areas difficult to access even with a rope so concentrated on the upstream end. Keith did the best in a sluggish swim by loose feeding and fishing sweetcorn, Peter also lost a big barbel after a raft of weed caught the line above the fish. He put it at 10 plus - again on corn. We left at 6 pm - think we would have continued catching.

Good to have a bit of rain to put some fresh water back in the rivers. Good flow, but a bit coloured for the grayling. All fish bar one solitary brown, dry fly, taken on heavy nymphs in the faster water. Best fish was a grayling of about 16". Good day. Probably fish better on Saturday as it will be clearer.

The river looked good with a few extra inches following the previous day's rain so we were looking forward to a good day. It turned out to be surprisingly slow going. The barbel and 2 of the chub were a nice size though.

Caught below the water confluence at the island beat. All fish ranged from 2 to 8 lbs. All taken on mesh pva bags and hair rigged double size 8mm pellet. Great day lovely weather and the conditions were perfect. Fish came steadily throughout the day. From underneath the overhanging tree.
