Fantastic day on my favourite grayling fishery. Early start as I knew the rain the day before would raise the river, but also knew it would drop very quickly. Most fish taken on either an olive or grey nymph fished in or around the faster water. The grayling size were varied from 6" to 18", but it was the trout that surprised me. Not know to be big on this beat from previous experiences, but the average size was between 14 and 18" with a few obligatory small ones. It was a fantastical and meet two other anglers on the beat both catching good sized grayling. Can wait for the water level gets back up again.

Very tricky day. Got there early, one or two trout rising but no interest in what I was offering. Too hot by 10:30 so went to enjoy the Brecon Beacons. Returned in the evening, hoping for a hatch, but no luck.

Introduced a friend of mine to the slippery slope of fly fishing. Whilst the sun and lack of water made catching hard, it was an easy introduction to wading and casting. We did winkle out 7 wbt, mostly 5"-6" on a range of nymphs. And my mate landed the fish of the day on debut, a pristine 9" brownie.
We had a long lunch on the bank, sipped some river-chilled wine, chatted and gazed at the river, marvelled at the beautiful Wye Valley countryside and soon the lack of rising trout and shoaling grayling seemed not to matter.
My fishing has become quite frenetic over the years but today reminded me that it's so much more than the catch.
Retired to our B&B and evening meal content with one more fisher added to our fraternity.

A first time out reccie on this beat for me and as has been said by others it is challenging wading in many places but I had no real problem just going steady and thinking and looking well before making the next move!

Beautiful stretch of water and location too and very well maintained by the owner (who I had the pleasure of meeting ) and I think it might need a hatch of some sorts in the big pools to give the best of the fishing? Looks like it could produce some lunkers!

Nothing hatching today (no surprise given current conditions and time of year) but some nice trout came out on top sipping spinners in the run just above the road bridge at last light. Looking forward to the next outing already.

Another hot day, and river level very low. No surface activity. Caught about a dozen juvenile trouts and 4 adult ones, all on a tandem of beaded nymphs. Even had the surprise to catch 2 together, one on each nymph.

Hot and sunny day greeted me Saturday morning with the river very low. Had booked a two day session and concentrated on the deep runs - Bridge Pool Gutter/Heirag. Czech nymphing brought results with good Grayling - 10 - 12inch. But the big surprise was a 2/3ib Chub. Put up a very good fight and took a GRHE on jig hook like all fish on the day. Found the Heirag pool too deep to fish even though with river was very low. Kept moving from pool to pool which seemed to work well.
