Cool with a chilly wind changed to mild with a warmer wind during the afternoon. One brief hatch of March browns whilst we were on the bank with coffee and a sandwich therefore only yielding one to the dry. Almost all the other fish taken on a team of spiders fished upstream. 15 fish with as many lost. Best were the 2 grayling and 2 of the trout all in the 14 to 15 inch class, all safely returned.

First time on the Taff and some lovely water to go at. The only disappointment was the hideous amount of rubbish littering the banks and bed. It is such a crying shame that with the heavy industry now gone and water quality restored that there is still so much human derived waste blighting what should be an absolute jewel. Fishing was very tough and we couldn't really blame the conditions but low pressure, a little flush through and some cloud would have helped. I would have thought a fish or two could have been intercepted on a speculative nymph but no such luck. A very sparse hatch of olives at mid day was insufficient to drag any fish to the surface, other than one lone individual which rose three times, the last time to my C fly but I conspired not to disturb it with my hook! I will be back.

A great day on the Upper Usk. A limited large dark olive hatch made surface activity sporadic. Still a nice 2lb trout taken on a small dry olive imitation, another bigger fish lost and quite a few other fish rising on and off. A close encounter with an otter and a day on this beautiful part of the Usk in spring left two anglers as happy as sand boys. Thank you WUF.

Weather good, warmed up after a cold snap, wind light, and overcast. So cannot blame the weather. River at a nice height, clear and not too cold, so cannot blame the river either. Tried dry, nymph, anything but not a bite, did not even see a fish, so can only really blame myself! Unusual as this beat is often productive, but still a very enjoyable day.

With the river low and the temperature very cold I had little expectation for catching and so it proved with a blank. There was no fly on water but after "recent cutting back" and a number of downed trees, there were limited opportunities to exploit the deeper pools. Having fished the area for 50 years ......"I will be back!!"

Just a quick mooch this morning , couple of hours , on WUF stretch and private stretch , better day fishing wise than yesterday , muggy overcast , slight drizzle , looked good !!!
Usual rig for the small streams , six foot , two weight headed up to where there is normally some feisty trout lying up !!! And lo and behold in a dam awkward position a rise , , he was sat right in the food lane , picking off morsels which I couldn't see what they were !! A shrewd guesstimate , on with a small black klinkhammer , and after getting on my knees in the Brook and shimmying into position managed a catapult cast which was short , another and eventually on target , and wallop , took , it a very satisfying splashy rise , only eight inches perhaps , but well earned and a good tactical approach I say so myself. !!!!!!,
Always good fun here , no more surface activity , although water quality is looking superb , I'm sure there are some lumps hidden away here , as the aquatic life is varied , and loads of it !!!!!A trouts KFC on tap for sure . . . . .
Well a fun two hours , pleased with the one , will be good fun in evenings next month , only viable in a few spots to be honest , and a bit more open further down !! Good fun back soon . . . . . . . . . . .
