Proper winter's day - frosty but bright. River probably a bit high for flies - I couldn't find any grayling at any rate. Just the one OOS trout grabbed a nymph.

A day off on my birthday allowed me to spend it at this lovely venue. Over 100 Canadian geese keeping me company on a cold frosty day. I only expected Chub to be honest but I managed 2 barbel and a beauty of 9lb 8oz. Cracking birthday present that was. Fished maggot, plugged feeder with maggots and hemp. Very cold day, was happy to have my hand warmers with me as temperature never rose above 2 degrees all day. At the end of the day my landing net froze to the grass - time to go home then for sure! Wonderful day, was still buzzing when I got home.

Way off the mark today, tried deep bugs, shallow bugs ,multiple bugs in almost every gutter and pool.
Didn't have a take all day between the pair of us. The gooseanders looked as if they've had a great Christmas, like to get a tracker on one of them just to point us in the right direction!!!
Anyway rods and tackle safely packed away until March. Happy new year to all at WUF, and everyone else I suppose!

No fish today, as was expected but nice to spend a couple of hours on the river on the first day of the year. Took the family and my little boy (20 months old) held a fly rod and tracked the flies through the water with me for the first time :). Water high and coloured (20" on the Lugg cam gauge). Tried Czech nymphing through the deeper pools.
