Nearly all fish taken on Pellet & Groundbait feeder tactics.
Best Barbel 9lb 4ozs
The 'other' fish was a monster eel taken on Luncheon Meat that was guessed to weigh about 3 1/2 lb.
If only some of the larger vegetation( ie tree branches)could be cut back this would provide access to some other likely looking swims.

River Low and first time on the beat. Really impressed with the fishery manager Peter, who showed us some good swims that looked likely.
We all managed some chub and 2 of us on the top Crib had 3 barbel between us. Biggest 8lb. Not bad in bright tough conditions.

River was low, but managed to find a deeper hole at the end of the beat that held a shoal of barbel from 10oz up to 5lb. My brother and father fished in the first two swims nearest the car park. The end swim was the only one that produced on the beat this day. I was catching barbel as soon as the feeder hit the water, I have never experienced as much action from barbel anywhere like this before. Fantastic days fishing for me but my father and brother were less fortunate.

A complete blank, not even a rise or a take. Beautiful stretch of water but apart from a few fish rising in the crystal clear flats little sign of activity.

What a beautiful day for fishing. Fished 9 till 5; no breeze, 16 degrees, mainly cloudy, and water a surprising 15 degrees after yesterday's rain resulted in a small rise in river levels - so where were the bugs? Having been out a couple of times on club waters on the upper Wye and Usk recently, they are currently in short supply for sure and today was no exception. But fish have been looking up and they were today as well. Apart from some midge, very few small upwings and some sedges on occasions, there was no fly and consequently, apart from something which got a few fish rising between 12 and 1 (which all took a small pale HE emerger), there were no rises. Tried nymphs early on and had a couple of ladies, then tried duo and took fish on the emerger so, for better presentation, switched to it alone and then took fish throughout the afternoon, none of which were rising. Grayling from 8-14 inches, and trout to 10 inches and couple of chublets. Small pale HE emergers are great at this time of year for getting fish off their backsides, and today was no exception. As noted by an angler a few weeks back however, the instability of the stile in the middle field is a serious "accident just waiting to happen". The squashed stock-proof fencing just above it has clearly been crossed before and I would recommend crossing it instead, though maybe it may not stay stock-proof too long. Can WUF please ask the riparian owner to mend the stile - it's wonky and rotten, been there for as long as I can remember and is now well past it's sell-by date and is becoming dangerous! A lovely day on a beat which invariably delivers.

6 Trout, 22 Grayling, 2 Chub
