A fairly bright and sunny day. Water level low. No bites during the day. Switched from pellets to luncheon meat and caught a chub of approx. 3.5 lbs and an eel at dusk. My friend lost one barbel at dusk on pellets. Difficult day.

This was my first visit to this part of the Wye fishing for Barbel. Weather had been changeable night before frost at 10.00pm pressure drop, rain in the early hours. Water was apparently still quite close to Summer Level.
I fished for 4 hours - no fish but one pull on 22 mm Halibut Pellet.
One or possible two Salmon jumping when we arrived at 'manhole' swim.

Good morning fish quite well spread out mostly small but a few more net-able fish. Started by the bridge and picked one or two fish off all the way down to just above glangwye, a couple of better sized fish came from the new salmon catch below the gravel catch. All came to small nymphs.

Another great day on this stretch of river. Conditions were spot on, low and very clear with plenty of fly hatching. Once the leaves wash through im sure there will be some great dry fly fishing through early winter at the right times. Took a novice angler who fancied a day on a big river (usually fishes the river Rhymney) and he thoroughly enjoyed himself. Fished from roughly half way up the beat to the top and took grayling all through on small nymphs fished under an indicator. Adam took a personal best grayling of around 1 3/4lb. We also landed a small salmon of around 6lb which was quickly released. Looking forward to the next trip!

An early start saw me and K.B heading for the Wye again. Traveling through the darkness and pouring rain we were glad to see the river even if it was running low and clear. The section had been fishing well the week before although it had slowed as the temperatures had dropped leading up to our arrival, typical !!! Having fished the Wye many times we knew that it would be a case of finding the fish and fishing hard for the short November daylight. Frequent casts and constant moving saw us working our around the beat until fish were found. Unfortunately for me the first time the rod wrapped over a not particularly small eel was the result, much to the amusement of K.B. Thankfully the Barbel did show up and although the feeding spells were very short and spaced out we both managed to catch. K.B took the win at 6-2.
