Shame we picked the warmest day of the year to try out this beat. Temperatures reached 30+ degrees so a bit of a hard slog. However, as always there is always an upside to the day and that came with a 4-5lb chub which came up to a black klinkhammer. DC caught a 1lb Grayling and a 3/4 trout. Towards the end of the day when the sun dipped behind the trees fish started to top but they were still elusive as we struggled to match the hatch.

Another tough day on a coloured and out-of-sorts river. Normally reliable swims in the top meadow and the woods failed to produce in the bright sunshine and 30-degree temperatures, and we cut our losses early without even a sniff of a barbel. Very unusual for this fishery!
Owner Note : In exceptional hot and sunny weather, barbel feed late when the sun starts to go down, as regular angler J.A. demonstrated the 18th.

A hot and sunny day on the Wye. Fished mainly feeder tactics and caught from many swims. No problems with canoes but dog walkers on the top section a nightmare! My fishing partner had a dog jump on him from the top of the bank knocking him off his chair and nearly in the river whilst chasing a football the owner was throwing into his swim repeatedly another dog wiped out his rod, same group, why they could not at least go up stream or down stream of his position the owners said they had no control of where the dogs went!!!! Some people!!!!! But a good day was had fishing wise. Thanks wuf.

Another great day on the Creel, the weather was on the warm side, fish not too keen on feeding after around 14:00, all fish caught on pellets and feeder, the caravans do spoil the view of the lower part of the fishery however the people were all friendly, thank you WUF for having this great beat on your books.

Beat:Middle Senni

Fishing:Trout (River)

No. of Anglers:1

Decided to spend a couple of hours on my local river, the Senny. It was a bright sunny day and the water was lowish so when I arrived at 10 AM I was not expecting a productive outing. I fished about half of the beat upstream of the bridge using a sedge pattern and then a PT nymph using a 6 ft 2 wt rod.. The access is a bit problematic because of vegetation growing over the intended access points. Also, the styles have barbed wire stretched over the upper rails, so bring some foam pipe insulation tubes if you decide to fish here. The banks are very overgrown and there is very little room between the fencing of the field and the bank drop off to the river so there was no option but to wade up the river. Despite my best efforts I managed to spook petty much all the fish in the stretch I explored. The fish I saw were all fingerling sized but it was encouraging to see legions of fry and the river looked very healthy with abundant insect life. As has been commented previously, there are a good many deeper pools which show every prospect of being able to harbour decent sized trout. The river itself is still very open thanks to the efforts of the volunteers a few years ago and it is perfectly feasible to get casts away. Owing to the overgrown and steep banks I felt the only option to return to my car was to wade back down the stream, thus spooking the fish back upstream. Overall, I was impressed with the potential of the Senni if only I could improve my ability to move stealthily upstream (or the banks are cleared of much vegetation). Perhaps Tenkara would be a better technique to employ here?
