Good result for a tricky day. Water very high and cold. Fish were shoaled up tight. Slowly got into them. Will have another go at the start of the season.

4 x trout 10-15 inches, Woodcock and Hare's Lug, Dark Moorgame. River very high this morning with gauge at 1ft 5 inches, although reasonably clear. Also an upstream gale growing steadily in strength. I could sum up today as darned difficult, but as I was passing through on the way to Swansea I stopped off in Brecon and gave it a try. There was a brief hatch of large dark olives about 1 o'clock.

Last day of river season dawned, mild but windy, river had dropped 2 feet overnight and lost a fair bit of colour.
Chub interested in bread from the off, managed 6 upto 4 1/2lb, great condition, all tucked up under the snags,
fed mash bread and fished liquidised bread in the feeder, had lots of interest in big flake pieces, but had to drop to smaller hook size and baits to convert to fish on the bank.
No barbel activity on pellet or meat, water temperatures on way up but still below 6 degrees, as always couple of days on Wye great way to end the river season

Booked as a present. Second day for the two anglers with river levels dropping slightly from the day before but still pushing through very fast. There were three anglers already in the meadow section on arrival so fished down near the village. One barbel was hooked but lost in an underwater snag.

River brown but dropping fast, down about 1.5M from previous days. All looked good for some end-of-season Barbel, but no-one had told them that! Only fish of the day was a 4lb Chub. No other bites all day even after changing baits, fishing in the slacker margins etc. Now looking forward to the summer.
