Considering the recent rises in water have been only a couple of inches, I was amazed at the colour of the river. The margins are clear in the slacks, but the river bed is covered in brown silt and the main river is carrying a lot of silt and is a dirty brown colour.

First time at this beat. I found it was over grown with steep banks and barb wire fencing so being a senior it was to dangerous to carry on sliding down the banks and having to crawl out . so had to call it a day it’s a shame you can’t have a look at the beats before you book

Lovely day on a well maintained beat. One angler lost a barbel early on then rest of day it was all chub, both on trotted meat and groundbait feeder with various hook baits. Chub from 1.5 to 5.5lb, most around 3lb. One angler caught a surprise 1lb+ roach on trotted meat. Lots of canoeists, all friendly and courteous.

23 Chub, 1 Other

Fairly slow not much happening during the day unfortunately had to leave just as it was getting exciting due to 3 hour drive. Most were caught on dry fly, one on nymph and one on streamer and one followed.

Fished lower field. Really only one fishable swim. Tried two others but standing room only, not very level and immensely uncomfortable. Fished 1330-2100 and caught chub steadily on pellet and meat, alongside feeder with wetted pellet. Not a sniff of a barbel. Disappointing. Good chub fishing but not the intended quarry. Could probably have caught one chub a chuck on the float.

11 Chub
