River very low and clear, bankside undergrowth now taking over, Balsam I think, so very difficult if not impossible to get to some areas. There are now cattle both sides of the river on the lower section and they are friendly !
Saw the dreaded cormorants fishing merrily on the lower section, and I think they were doing better than me.
As usual the wind was a real problem, it was much stronger than forecast, I think the weather people struggle to forecast yesterdays weather correctly !
Still better than a day working though.
Many thanks to the fishery owner and the Wye & Usk team.

Another great sporting day at Bugeilyn , bowled up at about elevenish , greeted with a lovely westerly breeze , and intermittent sunshine , perfect conditions ! The surrounding hills were splashed with purple from the heather , now in full flower , and the odd Dady long legs was flying out of the boggy grasses from around the lake , some landing in the marginal water , and hastily chased by Bugeilyn residents . . . . . . . . .

I used roaming tactics , with the usual floating line , on my five weight rod , and the few flies I tied from Plu Stiniog worked a treat , so I thank you Mr Evans. Ringing the changes , I did have four lovely fish from the westerly shore on a dry detached body Daddy long legs , very splashy savage takes . The very top end of the lake was good today , and had six on a mix of my home tied wets , the majority of them taking the flies with black in them .

There was a quieter spell around two for about an hour or so , which historically I've always found happens in the afternoon here , so took some time out to chill , and have a wonder around the local area . . . . Spotting a cormorant on Llyn Cwm Byr . . . . Hell these pests get everywhere !!!!! A well placed .223 me thinks ????

Sport again picked up late afternoon , and finished the day with fourteen crackers to the net , all carefully released , a real fun day , as always , and actually the last two weeks have been varied to say the least , with regards to fishing , had two excellent days on Claerwen Reservoir , with some beautiful wild brownies caught and released , and a fun afternoon on the Claerwen river , again catching small feisty brownies on nymphs , so all in all had a good dose of fly fishing to last me a few days . . . . . . . . Well perhaps until next week !!!!!

WUF SAFETY POINT : Just out of interest for folks that may need phone reception , I happened to look at mine , as it beeped !!!! On the track over the bridge between Bugeilyn and Cwm Byr , walk up that track about two hundred yards and you should get a decent reception . . . .

Overall, given the strong reputation of this beat, this was a disappointing experience.
The upper areas with the faster water are mostly unfishable due to overgrown banks and the number of closely growing mature trees at the river's edge. Half hour lost investigating upper beat. Drove to lower section, found two fishable swims with any depth/speed of water.
Bearing in mind £25.50 ticket price, it's not unreasonable to expect better choice and quality of swims - this might explain the fairly low number of bookings on this well known stretch of water.

Lovely couple of hours enjoying the river and the solitude.
Rose six (they are so fast) and lost one at the net, all on a Wickhams Fancy....so a zero return.
Few Mayfly still coming off.

Had difficulty finding access point on left hand bank (looking downstream). Suggest walking up the road (that parked on) around the bend and past the barn and then enter the first metal gate on left after approx 200yds.
