What a difference a day makes, 12 degrees cooler and the wind blowing a bit of a hoolie, nearly lost the hat more than once! A bit of welcome rain too.
Struggled a bit today and in hindsight, with nothing moving on top, I should have maybe swapped over to nymphs but wanted to persevere with the search dry as so far it seems the trout spend more time in the air than water when taken off the top . Huge fun ...
Its going to take me a time to suss this amazing beat out but I know I will enjoy every moment of it, providing I don't fall over! The rocks are very slippery now. Brought up a very considerable lump of a trout to a leggy foam beetle at the fast run in to Penlanole pool. Think he sussed out the game as couldnt get any further interest but his cards marked for sure. Digits crossed for the next visit.
The one trout netted would have gone a good pound I'm sure and in spanking condition so very pleased with that .

15 x trout 6-9 inches, Rusty Klinkhammer. An early start in an attempt to get ahead of the heat and the humidity and at the beginning with the beat fishing quite well, still with reasonable flow through the pools. However, I was not so successful in my attempt to get ahead of the dog walkers/swimmers who (as a previous correspondent noted) seem quite oblivious to the effect their splashing dog is having on some-one trying to fish. The top half of the beat was almost entirely spooked. Never mind, try to smile!

Well another muggy one when I bowled up at the lovely Arrow Mill beat at just before nine . . . Was actually overcast to begin with , which was a pleasant change , slight breeze too.
Tackled up with my usual six foot two weight , and a tiny tungsten hares ear nymph , starting down by the bridge , still low on water , and very clear . Did see one decent trout scarper upstream . .
Had first take half way in the nice shaded pool between the bridge and the weir pool , as usual , pretty little Arrow fish , about eight inches , quickly released . Second fish was in the weir pool , great little fighter , I guess being well oxygenated has plenty of puff !!!! Again about eight inches and a splashy goodbye from him too !!!!!
I did enter the river agian in the usual spot about a hundred yards up from the weir pool , the river here is almost chalkstream like , and a couple of belting chub seen too !!! I changed the heavy nymph for a lighter PTN , cast upstream in the fairly deep shaded water , and almost had a take straight away , again nice little fish ditto in size agian , working upstream , actually gets very deep in places even with the lack of water coming from the skies !!!!! Another good solid take , only stayed on a while , and he was off . . . . .
A fun three hours , three lovely little Arrow fish caught , and a pleasant mooch up this lovely beat , shall give it a bash again next week during the evening , happy days !!!!!!!!

Usual summer fishing a few small chub and bits on the float during the bright daylight then barbel coming at dusk. Best fish 7 pounds plus an estimate.Did not record fish weights just released the fish ASAP due to river conditions.
