Fish seen and fish were caught by others, however, I fished Fly all day for one pull which I suspect was a trout! It was low water conditions, hot and Sunny. Joe the Ghillie did his best and was helpful.

Very different conditions from when I fished this venue almost exactly a year ago. Today the river was a little lower and very, very much weedier. Started off today in the Church stream, where last year caught a number of barbel. Did get one bite but the fish dived straight into weeds and dislodged the hook. After a couple of fruitless hours moved to the steps, as this had less weed than most swims. Hooked a chub, but again lost in the weed. The next fish was a reasonable barbel (just shy of 8 lb), which eventually was safely landed after twice getting tangled in the weeds. Another smaller barbel followed, then some chub up to to 3 lb. One of the larger chub was still leaking eggs. By 4 pm the bites stopped completely. Only one angler fished, as the other was persuaded that experiencing perpetual daylight in northern Norway was more exciting than the Wye. He may have been right.

Despite warm sunny weather and numerous fly hatches no fish were rising. Tried small dries to match the hatch without success, switched to intermediate line & traditional wets again no takes. Then tried nymphs a mix of nymphs & buzzers to no avail. Went back to dries late on but still no fish showing & no luck. Just not my day I guess ????
