Halibut pellets on hair, barbel ground bait. We found that the ground bait attracted the chub and we caught the barbel at times when we didn’t use the ground bait for a while. We accidentally caught a small eel and also saw another one in the margins. Large fish were jumping throughout our two days on this incredible river.

A few small fish showing. We could induce the odd take but they were very flighty. Massive mixed hatch in the evening which was good to see. Still not a lot moving though. Sludge on river bed and very little weed. A little concerning.

Fished the middle pegs on the right hand side of the parking. Not many accessible pegs further down the other side of the beat. Not sure about double bank fishing as only one accessible side? Also no pegs on the opposite bank. Wye and usk need to update the information or provide further details for access. Slow going but enjoyable all barbel were between 6 and 8lb.

I found this beat quite difficult, all the fish came in the morning and I think that I should have rather focused on the early morning and then called it a day. There was a nasty cold wind blowing downstream the entire day and that made the fishing difficult. It may have put the fish down or put off the hatches. I did get back on the river late in the evening (it was the longest day of the year), and there was a considerable mixed hatch of upwings and caddis flies but not a fish moved. Never saw a rise.. So a tough day at the office, but I enjoyed it, as I have enjoyed all the beats I have fished and I am very thankful that the Wye Usk foundation makes that possible.. Thank you

Evening ticket; and lovely to be out on the longest day of the year in a gloriously sunny evening. I am still something of a novice with larger rivers and I don't feel I did this justice as there was a pretty promising evening rise. Spent the entire time fishing small dries and hooked 3 but couldn't seem to make anything stick!
