Totally opposite day to the previous day. Really cold and raining and the river starting to rise from all the rain. No hatch to witness. I had a fish of about 1lb on a small streamer pattern but that was it. The difference in temperature seemed to put the fish off and kill the fishing. (so I left mid afternoon). Amazing bird life though with marsh harrier, Red kite, the first swallow and sand martins of the year and an Osprey!

Eager to get out so chanced the Pinsley being in better condition than the Arrow. I was partly correct, with water clarity good, but still running a bit high. Enjoyable to wet a line at least, but no fish caught.

River still up at 1.2m on the Ross gauge and coloured so no good for fly but had a go anyway just for the exercise. Predictable result so tried spinning for a few hours, again nothing. Levels need to drop to under 0.8m, 0.4m to 0.5m being safest and best for the fly.
No dramatic changes to the beat from last season apart from some judicious pruning of willows which will make life so much easier when wading the right bank; thanks to whoever was responsible. Be back soon!
