First time at Pontithel. Easy to locate and access. Arrived early pm on a cloudy, showery day. Water up in the catchment but the beat perfectly fishable.

Not much rising so had to tempt the fish up using a variety of dries - iron blue, f-fly, olive emerger. Nice varied beat with some deep pools, long glides and some riffley water too. On the whole easy to wade even with the canopy in all its September glory.

Managed 5 wbt and 2 grayling, all between 7" and 12" and all returned safely.

Directions good, river coloured following heavy rain . Fished downstream of bridge from noon until 4. A few fish rising so tried a G gnat and had a most enjoyable afternoon, 8 Grayling between 6''and 10''and 3 trout all about 9''. Access to river ok but getting out in some places a little difficult for well nourished mature gentlemen ! Expensive day, punctured waders and lost specs about 100yds downstream from bridge on right bank . If found there is a days fishing as a reward !

This was our first time on this stretch of the Wye. The best barbel was 8.07 and all fish were caught on our usual feeder and pellet approach. Very nice stretch with plenty of options of where to fish. Back in two days for another go.

Difficult day however a couple of barbel. Even the 6 people on the other bank blanked. Unsure why they are not feeding.
