Lovely sunny weather all day, so a lot of mayflies in the air. Got the browntrout (38cm/1,4 kg) on a converted newzealand-style combination (tied together) of attracter fly and nymph.

Hot and sunny 22' Despite the bright sunshine, the first and second cast of the day produced two trout, one of 1lb and one of 2lb on a small dry in the rapids. Two more good trout were caught of 2lbs each in the fast runs, they tended to hit the fly hard making a splash and a quick strike at this produced the goods. several of the other fish caught were on small nymphs. total of 10 fish of which 3 of 2lbs.

Well another glorious day , turned up at Court of Noke beat at eleven , bright sun , slight breeze , looked difficult conditions , so tackled up with two tiny size eighteen tungsten nymphs .
As I walked down to the start of the beat downstream , I did stop now and agiain just to see if any rises were obvious . It looked pretty quiet to be honest !!!!,
Starting at some of the runs that have produced before , had one small feisty brownie , about six inches , as always , lovely colours , and quickly released . Same pool , at the head , and ditto another cracking little fish again six or seven inches , admired then released .
I did not see a mayfly till about two ish , and then they were thin on the ground , Think I saw four in total !!!! Things will hot up no doubt very soon . I did see one splashy aggressive rise , in the bridge pool , possibly a good fish , hope he's there next week !!!!!
The other four fish were from prospecting the usual likely locations . Great fun on the two weight rod , and sizes from six to ten inches . No rises seen during my four hour session here , although I'm sure the next two weeks , the bonanza will begin !!!!!
Another lovely few hours on this beat , six lovely brownies caught and released , nothing big but still lovely to be out in our glorious Herefordshire country side , shall be back here on evening sessions over the next two weeks . . . . . . . .

Very difficult today, bright, hot, sunny and a low river.
Managed just one trout on a nymph and missed a couple of takes on a dry but there were virtually no fish rising at all. There was a steady precession of upwings from the smallest to the largest Mayfly, Black gnats and the banks were strewn with stone fly shucks in places but the trout just weren’t having it today.
Stunning beat, one of my favourites so I’ll definitely be back.

Nice sunny day on this pleasant beat.No real fly hatch, probably down to the gusting downstream wind (a bit more than the slight breeze forecast) hence no sign of any surface activity, only saw one decent rise all day, so all fish taken on nymphs.
Thanks to W&U and fishery owner.

Sunny all day, although quite shaded on this beat which is helpful given the crystal clear water. Many flies of all sorts hatching all day, but not many rising fish. Still persevered with small grey hued dries, landed 5 from 7 to 12" and missed a lot- mainly my fault as I saw the fish coming and tightened too soon. 4 that I landed (and 2 I missed) came from just one run - elsewhere it was one rise or nothing. No idea why!!

The lower Wye valley on a warm, sunny evening in May is magnificent. The downside is that salmon are very hard to catch in this weather. 1 shad caught.

I've never seen this stretch quite as low and it was no surprise not to catch anything. Did see the shad spawning which was a very memorable sight , there must have been over 200 on the gravel beds.
