Beat:Upper Tower

Fishing:Trout (River)

Wet spider initially, one take but no connection. Changed to dry fly as there was some fly on the water. There was some Grannon hatching and a few Olives. There was an intermittent rise, most of it on the smoother water. A lovely beat to fish and a thoroughly enjoyable day out. Good wading and lots of wildlife to see. Definitely worth another visit.

I returned to the river today and spent some time watching the water. Nothing was rising so I left without fishing. I’ll be back another time, this time the river beat me twice.

One 12” brown trout caught on nymph and a small 6” trout caught on a spider. Very little fishing fish until it picked up slightly at dusk, and those fish were uninterested in any dry flies I casted. Good to meet Jim from Carolina USA who was fishing this beat today.

This is going to be one of those "Nevertheless, a good day to be out on the river" type of returns.
Low clear water, high bright sun. Difficult conditions for my first time on this beat. The wading is tricky too, and the steep wooded banks make for a difficult backcast, so difficult to get a fly into just the right spot.
Hardly any fish were rising; a few sporadic hatches tempted the fish up.
I toiled away in the hot sun - nymphs and dries - without a single take.
Nevertheless, it's a beautiful beat, and a good day...etc...etc..
