I tried this beat of the Arrow for a few hours in the early afternoon and what a lovely beat it is. There's so much variety in the river here, some stretches you'd think you were on a Wiltshire chalk stream. There was a steady hatch of olives and the mayfly are really starting to get going now as well. The trout were rising too, not in huge numbers but steadily. 6 trout came to the net on DHE's and Yellow Owl emergers, the first near the start of the beat a good 12".

Had a really fun few hours at this picturesque beat . Must say it is getting a bit like going back and doing jungle training in places , to get to the water , and it's only the end of May !!!!!! Makes Belize look a walk in the park . . . . . . . Mid afternoon there was a steady stream of mayflies , and was interesting to watch , not only excited small trout have them , but as they took flight , the damsels would pounce on them, and settle down to a tasty meal !!!!! Rises were sporadic from twelve till half three , and throughout the beat , I managed three small brownies of about seven or eight inches , no grayling , mind you I believe it was about 25 degrees , so who can blame them . Abundance of life in the river as well , as I sat in my waders , in a nice stretch of coooooooool water !!!!! Very pleasing and amazing to watch the creepers , caddis and a whole host of invertebra skulking between the stones , keeping out of the way of bullheads !!!!! I had two of the fish on a home tied grey duster , and the last one , close to the bridge , on a mayfly pattern , splashy take , and a young fish . Beautiful markings though , was reluctant to have phone out mid water , in case of a clumsy accident !!!!!, look forward to another session , perhaps another beat of the Arrow . Think this will be hard work next month !!!!!!!!! Thouroghly enjoyable four hours , shall certainly be back , be a nice stretch for grayling in the colder months . . . . .

Very hot and humid throughout the day with the odd upwing lifting off. 2 small trout to hand and a handful of splashy attempts were my lot for the day. Had a great conversation with one of the residents whose garden backs on to the river for ten minutes.

Sun beating down, river very low, tons and tons of insects, fish rising but all close to the banks or other cover and unenthusiastic. Hard going , managed 11 small fish the biggest being 9" but could not raise any that were bigger and I know they are there. All to size 18 dry flies..Adams, Greenwells, Tupps, Iron Blues, and some nymphs just under the surface. Wonderful to watch a Kingfisher deal with its meal just 20 feet from me and to return several times to the same spot.
Thanks WUF for the opportunity to fish such lovely places!

Water low and clear but a fair few fish rising. Managed seven trout to 9 inches and two out of season grayling to 12 inches. Changed tactics throughout the day and caught on various beaded pheasant tail nymphs, cdc emerger and mayfly emerger fished on a french leader on conventional rod and reel with the last two caught on a tenkara rod. Not easy fishing but an enjoyable day on this attractive beat.

Absolutely stunning day on a glorious beat, river low with bright very warm sun all day.
Arrived late morning, no great hatch going on but a steady trickle of a variety of insects throughout the morning brought up a good number of trout, I managed 3 on small dries before things slowed around lunchtime as the sun was at its strongest. Things picked up again in the evening and I took another nice fish before leaving. Plenty of missed takes and one or two lost fish made for a memorable day's fishing.
