Eyeing up the catch returns for late August had us licking our lips in anticipation. Starting in fine drizzle, mid-morning with an intermittent northerly breeze it felt chilly. As the day wore on the cloud cleared. By the afternoon it was bright and warm. The river had a slight brown tinge but was clear. Wading was relatively easy with the aid of a staff. As anglers so frequently comment this is a stunningly beautiful place to spend a day fishing.
Fish were rising occasionally in the pools but they tended to ignore the variety of small dries we offered. When they did rise the flies weren’t taken. Weighted nymphs were more successful accounting for three good Grayling, each over a pound and a couple of trout one of a pound, the other much smaller.
It all goes to show that catch returns are just history and as they tell investors, “Past performance is no guarantee of future results.” It never stops us getting excited though does it?

The water was not very clear, however I could catch some good fishes. The best spots are in the ripples, the best one the latest, I lost a Big trout, in the last one quite big, I show it silvering when It decided to bend my rod too much and escape.
Big fun.

All grayling fell to dry flies from large mayfly pattern (on duo set-up) down to tiny grey wulf fished as a single dry. Water very clear today and no trout in evidence. Wonderful afternoon on the river & what a magnificent herd of cattle on the bank; cows, calves & bull all looked in 'tip-top' condition grazing in the sunshine.
..Oh ..and Mark.. after you had left (at about 17:30hrs) a salmon started to move just where you had been fishing before leaving! I wish I'd brought my salmon rod.
Many thanks WUF.

The first of a three day, three beat trip to introduce AB to the WUF waters. A request for some smaller waters placed us in the Black Mountains and I thought this beat should provide some fun (also forgetting the cattle gates !) A promising start with a missed take on first cast and a very good fish lost due to catching my rod tip in a small branch above me, gutted!
Had to leave the beat soon after when AB ripped his waders, a trip to Brecon saw him fitted out and we returned to where we left off, one small trout was brought to hand from the diminishing water and we left not long after.
Literally sharing the one rod proved a laugh and although the return was less than expected, I and AB left still enthused.

Totally blank day. Bright and sunny but a chilly downstream wing blowing for most of the time. Saw only 2 or 3 fish rise. First time I've fished here with so little success and seen so little activity. Scenery as beautiful as ever though!

Drove down from Yorkshire today and didn't get to the beat until 4pm. We both fished the same swim and caught steadily all evening. Average size of 6lb with the biggest going 8lb 9oz. All immaculate fish.
We fished on hair rigged pellet and bomb/feeder catapulting in a few freebies.
A lovely beat and one of our favourites. Great to see the kingfishers diving.

Slow during the day due to bright sunny conditions but we all had a great evening. Lots of pegs at the top of the beat but not many at the lower part. All in all an excellent day, the 1 pike was caught on a static pellet!!
