Fishing:Winter Grayling
No. of Anglers:1
Fished from 10- 3. River at .58 on the Cilmery scale and running strongly, just a little too deep to get to some of the best places. Fish between 11-14 inches. First 5 to a # 16 goldbead hares ear, the next 8 to a selection of # 16 dries, a Klinkhammer Adams pattern being the most successful.

24 x grayling 6-17 Inches, 2 x out of season trout 7 and 14 inches, long trotting and a few on Tenkara. A warmer day than of late, with the level comfortably down below 0.60 on the Cilmery gauge. Water unusually clear and the grayling accordingly rather spooky this afternoon. Grayling of all sizes from some good ones (2 at 17 inches) down to shots. Met a shooter after woodcock on the way through the wood.

Very hard going today 3 small grayling to nymphs. Lost a few slipping the hook before I could bring them to hand. A small hatch of dark olives appeared around mid day. Saw a couple of small grayling rise so switched to dry fly for and hour but no response. In hindsight I could have done with a few more heavier nymphs as they only seemed interested in taking nymphs bouncing bottom.

A return to this beat after about 10 years. We love it. Forgot about the steep drive down to the hut but my little van got out after clearing the leaves from the track. Grayling caught from Leaning Willow and below Hierag pool, trotting.
Loads of oss trout. Newly fitted tungsten wader studs brilliant - money well spent and I recommend them to anyone new to wading in the Wye.

Problem with the booking as no beat map or directions sent. Wasted half the day trying to find the water and not certain we were in the right place when we started fishing. No one available for phone contact in the office at weekends. Fishing good when we got started. Grayling rising for a couple of hours early afternoon and 3 caught on Griffiths Gnat. 4 grayling and a 1.5 lbs trout taken on tungsten nymphs late afternoon. Grayling 10ins to 14 ins.
WUF Note: We apologise for the technical problem with the order confirmation and are looking into the issue.

Arrived around 8am, started fishing by the “car park”. The water was clear and probably was up a bit as a bank was so slippery and wet. Moved every 1-2 hours up and down to find the fish with no luck, left the water at 3pm.
At least the weather was brilliant:)

Once again a lovely stretch of water, but high levels and flows together with lots of colour put the fish off. Hopefully next time our trip will be more productive when conditions are more favourable.
