First time on this water, and had water to myself apart from a syndicate member who I just happened to know. Had a few pulls but no fish this time but saw a few show during the day . Didn't start well as I managed to hole my waders so wading was a little damp...... Nice water, I will be back.

River quite clear, sporadic olives hatches during the afternoon but with only two fish seen rising with no pattern.
The upstream nymph method produced 4 lovely Usk brown trouts.
Very nice beat.

Evidence of much work by Louis and team: fencing, gates and stiles so access very good. Not much evidence of fish in river with a touch of colour. Fished for a couple of hours Czech style - one pull - one 9" OK trout - safely returned.

The day was colder than expected with no hatch of fly at all. There was just a few flies mostly taken by grey wagtails. I caught 4 trout, the largest of which was 3/4 lb. He leapt like a salmon out of the water to take the fly, and got to about 50cm !! He was safely returned.

There was a lot of plastic debris around the pool, largely left by picnickers, youths and whoever else is let loose there. I have reported it to the WUF.

WUF Note: Report received and we are investigating this problem.

Cold downstream wind and a lack of fly life but the better fish (best at 16.5") and two others lost all took size 16 Olive Klinkhammers fished on the edge of turbulent water at the heads of pools. One taken on a downstream olive nymph. Warmer weather and a bigger hatch of fly and no doubt this beat really comes alive.

Great to be back on Bugueilin, weather OK, bit windy blowing across from right to left made fishing difficult along left bank. Easier casting further up where I had first few fish. Made way round lake, casting much better having knocked the rust off. Still missed and lost as many as caught. Last fish in boathouse bay, started with Mallard and claret then switched to Bilbio caught on both. Very nice way to start season.
