First hard frost of the autumn. River running at 1ft 9in, clear but with a lot of leaves. Fish hard to find. Ended up with 9 grayling, all between 8" and 10". Nine on gab and one on nymph. Was too fast to wade Abernant Stream so gave that a miss this time.

Arrived to a ground frost this was followed by unbroken sunshine all day, a lovley day to be out on the riverbank however the fish didn't seam to have the same appreciation for the conditions, river was low & clear. One Barbel & Chub caught during the afternoon & a supper condition 8lb Barbel put in an appearance last cast just as the last of the daylight faded. Always a pleasure to be on the Wye

Unfortunately, I only managed to fish this for a couple of hours first thing in the morning, I wanted to come back later in the day, but was sadly unable to make it :( Didn't see or touch any fish while I was there, shied away from a few good spots due to wading difficulty, water was running quite well and I didn't have a wading staff. Looked like some great water though, will try again when I'm next in the area!

A great beat, with a broad range of water - and so much of it that one would be hard pushed to do it justice in a day. A beautiful church at the downstream end of the beat, and a series of gorgeous pools, riffles, run and gutters. Several salmon seen jumping throughout that day too.
Two grayling caught and released on nymphs in deeper sections. Two fingerling trout also caught and released not included in count.

Lost a good fish in head of bridges pool while nymphing. Access to river on top beat could be better provisions could be put in place for easier access/egress. Other than that nice beat will be back.

First blank on the Wye! Never fished this stretch before so did a lot of walking in the morning. The sky cleared up and temp plummeted in the afternoon so struggled. Did lose one fish, either a barbel that went over something sharp or a Pike (which I think is more likely). Also fell over, got chased by bullocks and impaled myself on a barb wire fence! Not the best day! Stretch looked interesting and varied but hard to relax with the curious cows and bullocks in the field.

6 members of Charfield Angling Association enjoyed a day on Ty-Newdd, Gromain and Llangoed. After breakfast at the fishing hut on Gromain, we split up with two per beat. The river was at 1’9” on the Erwood gauge, so it was high but fishable. The colour had run out and visibility was good. We caught lots of smallish grayling, between about 8” and 10”, with a few larger grayling to about 14”. All on nymphs, with only a few un-catchable fish rising outside the fishing hut at lunchtime. A few salmon splashing about and a kingfisher on patrol. The Wye Valley was in autumnal colours and a glorious sight.
