After losing a fish here yesterday and seeing several others running through I knew it was holding a good few. Returned today for a focused run through for a few hours. River at a beautiful height and flow 1'9" on the Llanstephan gauge. First fish took in main flow of the Stepping Stones: a 33" Hen around 15lb's. Second fish took in the neck of the Upper Caban: 37" Cock fish - 22lb on the sturdy scale. Both gave a great battle on 7wt switch rod with 3ips 10ft tip and a size 10 red Ally's Shrimp. Challenging wading and access but amazing water and scenery, topped off by a PB. V happy drive home today!

River in perfect condition, bit of colour still visible, started slowly with just 1 barbel.
Then switched on in afternoon. Had 4 small barbel about 1lb and the rest between 6lb & 8lb, the biggest had 3 hooks in its mouth which I removed. There seems to be a barbel population explosion this year, ive never caught so many small fish.
The biggest chub was about 3 1/2- 4lb. Fantastic day.

Having been washed off yesterday, I was hoping for a good day on this stretch of water. It was a cold day with a gale blowing downstream. I didn't see a fish or any insect life at all. Did look like a nice beat though.

The water was pretty much perfect today, being on the high side but clear moving the fly well. There was no sign of any fish however.... I bumped into the other fisherman and they'd had one take all day. At least I had a trout to boast about!! It took a cone-head fly - which was nearly as big as the fish! Silly trout... got him off ok though.

Having purchased a permit for both Dinas & Abercynrig, my uncle and myself took turns fishing up both beats. In the pleasant sunshine at the start of the day a good number of upwings were coming off though we saw few fish respond. However, plenty of fish in the 0.75-1lb range came to hand using tungsten beaded nymphs including Hares Ear and PTN. Best fish of the day came from the ripple at the top of the Abercynrig beat and weighed approx 1.5lb. Very enjoyable day with plenty of spotted beauties to hand. Hard to believe the seasons end is almost upon us!
