A hard day on an otherwise prolific beat. Weather didn't help with half a gale blowing straight in our faces along with rain on and off all day. Still enjoyable even so !!

3 Barbel, 1 Chub

NTR except a couple of fish moved in Gravel Catch area

Spent seven hours fishing and didn't see a single rise probably due to the weather which was wet and windy. River still clear and low.

2 Grayling

Late start today after diesel issues meant we missed the early morning bite time. However, did manage one nice barbel of about 6lb. Pellet and feeder tactics.

1 Barbel

Arrived to find the river very coloured with a strong and gusty wind. Fished duo with a variety of nymphs to no avail. 5pm arrived and I decided to call it a day but gave it another hour because I saw a rising fish below the bank, chucked a size 18 Greenwells at it ..rejected...chucked a size 18 para Adams ..rejected..then a Griffiths Gnat and a Iron Blue ,still no joy. Finally went to an 16 Adams and bingo! Proved to me that a rejection doesn't necessarily mean spooked fish. Another followed 10ft upstream. 2 Trout , 8 and 10 inches.

Hostile weather precluded fishing

Nil catch but a great day out on the river meeting some fine fellows and fine fisherman along the way. River at a lovely height but coloured up perhaps a shade or two too much.

My first visit to the beat and I was impressed by the amount of good fly water. It was a promising day with cloud and light rain, the level a few inches up and slightly coloured, and I concentrated my efforts on the bottom of the beat down to the Vanstone, where there were clearly fish. I fished mainly smallish bright doubles on a floating line, and also tried a small spinner for a short time. I saw about a dozen salmon and grilse move during the day (most but not all coloured), one or two of them almost under the rod tip, but I did not manage to contact one before admitting defeat in heavy rain at 7.45.

Only fished for 1.5 hrs very windy had one tug and saw one fish jump. Had limited time as had to get back home to London. Will be back also met the bailiff.
