This is a very tranquil setting, worth the trip just for the peace and quiet and the wildlife, including a kingfisher and a heron. Despite a regular trickle of hatching insects there was very little sign of fish moving and nothing caught.

Fantastic day of sport on a beat that I have fished in the past with mixed results. Not today though, the fish were very obliging and all runs, rifts and deep pools produced fish throughout the beat. Caddis pupa and white headed ptn produced most of the fish using the klink and dink method and later into the afternoon the fish started to take the pt klink. Trout ranging from 10 to 12" with one fantastic fish of 18". Grayling from 6" to 14" with a good few around the 16" to 18".
Only criticism of this beat is the first 200 yrd from the wooded area on the left bank from the bridge is virtually impassable and could do with a path being carved out. Lots of brambles which don't do your waders any good and a few barbed wire fences with no styles on them.

Same scenario as the 24th June, but with the bonus of no (human) swimmers in the faster water. This time the barbel in the evening was 7lb 4oz, and one of the hardest fighters I have ever caught. All the fish this year have been in perfect condition, and the river is full of fry, so the long dry spell does not so far seem to have impacted the coarse fish. However, it is noticeable that far fewer salmon are leaping this year, on the Wye in general.

After fishing Duhnonw moved to this beat for 2 6-8" WBT. Water very low and hooked fish jumping (rather than diving) meant lost more than usual.

After a tricky morning on Escley 3, I drove over the top (see piccy) for stunning views of the Herefordshire countryside. I was looking for a wild stream with water/flow and Pontithel did not disappoint. All fish were caught to various dry but a small yellow May was most productive. All WBT were of a decent size and the Grayling put up a good scrap. Nice beat.
