Another great day on the Wye. Fished the bottom pool. River was very low. Heavy canoe traffic. On the other side of the river (unfortunately in front of me) the cows visited several times. Fished till 17:00. All barbel were small but good to see this for the future of this picturesque river. Used feeder tactic. Thank you WUF.

1st day at Foy. River low and clear, so knew it would be a maggot day. Took 15 mins to get the fish feeding, then caught all day, Barbel after Barbel.
They were only small, up to about 1.5 pounds along with some nice chub up to 2.5 pounds, one brown trout about 3 pounds and a few nice dace. A great day.
2nd day the same beat. Had used a lot of my maggots on the 1st day so I got the yellow peril out and bang, Barbel after Barbel this time a bit bigger with a few in the 3 to 4lb range. Not so many chub but still plenty of nice dace. All in all a great 2 days fishing. Thanks, IJ.

I found the water level pretty low on Saturday, but still the Irfon has been quite productive. I caught 11 browns, most of them good sized (1 pound)... and lost 2 big fish: 1 grayling, definitely over 3 punds, and 1 big brown. Fished only with nymphs; just saw a couple of fish rising all day.
I was supposed to fish also on Sunday but because of the heavy rain of the night before the river was too dirty and muddy.

A challenging day in very windy conditions on at the Creel. It is clear from the catch reports, particularly earlier this week, that there are good numbers of barbel in this beat. However, we have yet to work out where they are! RB went for a static approach fishing one swim all day, and was eventually rewarded with a solitary barbel late on. RW went for a roving approach fishing four swims throughout the day, catching a total of 4 small barbel and 3 chub in two of them late on in the evening.

Difficult day with the gusty wind, managed 6 grayling and 3 trout all taken on dry fly apart from 2 small trout early on with heavy nymphs. Landed 3 good grayling at the island all around the 18" mark.

Fished the stretch above the main car park. Water really low - saw numerous trout of varying sizes but they were spooked really easily. I had one on for all of about two seconds but lost it. Highlight of the day though was the two kingfishers we saw flitting up and down the river - they must be nesting in the eroded bank just above the second set of watergates.

Fished middle section trying two swims. The first near the upper tree line and couldnt get a bite, moved dowstream to a lovely swim with some nice moving water and caught two barbel both just over 9lb.
River was very low so fishing was tough. Due to it being low canoeists became a pain as they were heading for the deeper water where I was fishing. One canoe decidied to deliberately beach right opposite me, one bloke got out beer in hand and decided to run with the canoe straight towards me, jumped in totally lost control and then got caught on my line which was only 1 rod length out, took the line half a mile down stream and then snapped it so they could free the canoe.
So, they were pissed, in control of a canoe that could put themselves and others at risk with zero sense of responsibility at all.
Having read the August report from WUF its obvious there is a problem and not much us anglers can do however it totally ruins your day when idiots with no rules are allowed to do as they please.
Back to the fishing, this is a great beat with good swims and good access.
WUF Note: We have forwarded this report to the EA (the Wye's Navigation Authority) who advise that incidents like this should be reported to their 0800 80 70 60 incident number with, if possible and if applicable, details of the company the canoe(s) was hired from.
