A bit of a struggle given the low, clear water and few fish rising. However, we did manage some small fish on both dry flies and nymphs. At least the conditions meant my colleague was able to find his car keys, having unknowingly dropped them into the river - we'd spent an hour searching for them along the track and bank...
Stayed at the excellent Cammarch Hotel, Llangammarch Wells. Also gives you the opportunity for some pre-breakfast fishing on the River Irfon.

A delightful afternoon in most beautiful surroundings. River very low and clear. Fish rising in shaded pools early and mid afternoon. Caught and returned one 1/2 lb plus healthy trout on a size 14 dry Tup.

First time fishing the Monnow and really enjoyed it. Lots of different types of water from flat glides to some fast deeper runs. Lots of flies life but not a lot rising so only a few on dries. Most of the fish came to nymphs fished through the faster water. A very nice afternoon followed by a refreshing pint at The Bell!

Hottest day of the week and we catch the most and the biggest of the week. First came in the morning to a gold shrimp at the cottage pool, then nothing till after lunch. 2 from the Heirag to a tungsten bead hares ear and the remainder from the Herons run. Biggest just over the pound. By far the best beat in low water

Hot day and low water. Fish taken in the main on wet flies with a GRHE . One additional smolt, with a further 6 missed. Entertaining but few large fish seen. My thanks to Jon Morris for an excellent day's tuition/guidance.

6 x trout 10-14 inches, Hair Wing Sedge and Griffiths Gnat. Plus far too many out of season grayling, from parr up to 14 inches. A few hours with the dry fly rod on the way to W Wales. The river was exceptionally low, just 3 inches at Llanstephan gauge, and the sun very bright. I don't know about wellies, but you could certainly ford the Wye in thigh waders at quite a few points. Nothing moving in the pools, which were stagnant with clumps of detached algae drifting, but it was possible to find rising fish in the fast water. This kind of low water day is never wasted though, because it's an invaluable way to explore the details of the river bed.
